SEE you in 2010!
Eligibility
This event is open to students in grades 7–12 who have received a “superior” rating at their schools’ science fairs and have been choose by the school to represent them at the Science and Engineering Expo.
The school must be located in the southwestern Ohio district, which encompasses the following counties:
- Butler
- Clermont
- Hamilton
- Preble
- Warren
Students from other counties can find the location of their district science day on the Ohio Academy of Sciences Web site.
Students who attend virtual schools, are home schooled or whose schools do not hold science fairs may participate as well. You do however need to participate in a local science fair in order to attend SEE , since applications are submitted through teachers at schools holding science fairs. If you would like more information about area schools holding fairs click here or contact us at ucsciencefair@uc.edu or (513)556-4433 to get information.
Types of Science Fair Projects
There are basically two types of science fair projects that are acceptable for the Science and Engineering Expo. You can choose to perform a traditional scientific experiment, where you test a hypothesis through experimentation, or an engineering design project, where you design a solution to a problem and test the outcomes.

The Scientific Method |
The Engineering Design Process |
| State a question or problem | Define a problem or need |
| Gather background information | Gather background information |
| Formulate hypothesis; identify variables | Establish design statement or criteria |
| Design experiment, establish procedure(s) | Prepare preliminary designs |
| Test hypothesis by doing an experiment | Build and test a prototype |
| Analyze results & draw conclusions | Verify, test & redesign as necessary |
